Kathy Taylor has been designing and creating one-off pieces of jewellery since student days and turned to Sterling silver as her medium of choice in 2014, adding copper, freshwater pearls and gemstones as each design requires. She has studied in France and Hatton Garden and has used the skills taught there along with a big pinch of experimenting to produce one-off jewellery which is both wearable and affordable. Inspired by everyday objects, Kathy regularly doodles her ideas and is seen heading post haste to her workshop to try them out. She particularly loves soldering and so most enjoys making rings and bangles.
After a degree in Physical Geography and a career in the public sector, Kathy started her business, Katie Flutie Jewellery in 2015. It is so named by taking her initials and then adding her principal instrument, a solid silver flute, as Kathy is also a musician. She started teaching silversmithing at several venues across Bedfordshire and Hertfordshire in 2016 and runs half-day taster sessions from her home in Shefford.
