Gill Ayre is a painter working primarily with oils on canvas. Her work is an emotional and contemplative response to landscape and is primarily process driven, allowing a semblance of landscape to emerge out of semi-translucent layers of loose paint, partially revealing, partially obscuring what came before. The viewer is therefore encouraged to a personal response; a recognition not of specific place but rather of an emotion, atmosphere or mood relating to place.
Gill has been a practicing artist since graduating with First Class Honours in Fine Art from the University of Bedfordshire in 2010, after which she secured a 5 year Fellowship with Digswell Arts. In 2015, at the end of the Digswell Fellowship, Gill came together with 2 fellow artists, also alumni of Digswell Arts, to establish Langley End Studio at Langley End, near Hitchin, where she is currently based.
Gill regularly exhibits and sells work through galleries and group exhibitions and art fairs in Hertfordshire, the Eastern Region and London.
