Stanley Greening & Kate Windibank
September 7 @ 10:00 am - September 15 @ 5:00 pm
allēgoria, is a group exhibition by gallery artists, Stanley Greening and Kate Windibank.
Kate uses the inner and outer surfaces of the ceramic vessel to explore the concepts of repressed emotions, concealed truths, fragility and strength. The work is reminiscent of time-worn objects; shells or rocks eroded by the elements. Their truths, once hidden, now revealed through the transformational nature of time.
Stanley’s oil pastel and pencil drawings present dark narratives and misdirection creating mischievous allegories, whilst his stark charcoal and carbon drawings are dense nest-like networks offering sinister worlds constructed of tangled ladders and ‘organic’ matter.
Both artists are concerned with surface, each pushing their materials beyond convention to create their own surprising results. From the complex surfaces created by oxides and glazes in Kate’s sculptures, to the obsessive, layered, textured detail in Stanley’s drawings, both command intimate scrutiny. And it’s through close exploration that you begin to unravel allēgoria.
