SeaLand - a group exhibition

‘SeaLand’, A group exhibition by gallery artists, Gill Ayre, Karin Friedli, Anne Hignell and Judith Moule

Private View
2-5pm Saturday 10th August

Gill Ayre, Judith Moule, Karin Friedli and Anne Hignell, are all known for their landscape paintings, and bring their own unique expression, interpretations and responses to the theme of Sea and Land.

Anne Hignell, painter
Anne is a painter and lives and works in Hertfordshire.  She has been painting and drawing for over 25 years. Anne’s work is diverse in subject and application. Having concentrated on the human form for many years, she sees a natural progression in exploring other landscapes, both natural and placed, their shapes and forms, interconnecting lines, depth and space, their colour and light. Anne applies her mark making in an intuitive and expressive way, responding to the subject as well as to the unfolding image being created. Her interpretation tends towards semi abstraction and sometimes purer abstraction.  She enjoys using a mixture of medium including paint, charcoal, pastel, ink and collage to develop her work.

Karin Friedli
Karin is a contemporary landscape artist. The beauty of nature inspires her, capturing the intensity of the light at different times of the day and exploring the varying weather patterns and changing seasons. Her expressive style tries to catch an impression of the landscape, its mood and energy from invigorating to tranquil, the unique time and place as well as a reflection of the fragility of nature. Karin likes to form an impression without focusing on every detail by using loose movements, using her bare fingers and hands, as well as palette knives, splattering, scraping, rags and sometimes a paintbrush. My aim is to hopefully evoke the energy of the landscape in order to capture the imagination of the viewer.

Judith Moule
Judith Moule is a printmaker and painter living and working in Hertfordshire who was trained at the University of Hertfordshire, Watford College and the Prince of Wales Trust, has exhibited in the U.K. and has successfully taught in schools.  Judith’s work is about mark making and records the texture and traces of the landscape, a human experience of the land, rather than its material presence. She tends to use a limited palette, which enables her to concentrate on the issues being presented, whilst the subtleties in the change of tones create their own harmonic rhythm, and add spatial qualities which are important to her.

Gill Ayre
Gill is an established local artist, primarily a painter, working in oils, acrylics and mixed media on canvas. She is a Fine Art graduate of the University of Bedfordshire, and alumni of Digswell Arts, and now works in a shared studio at Langley End near Hitchin. Her work is an emotional and contemplative response to landscape, and is primarily process driven, allowing a semblance of landscape to emerge out of loose and expressive applications of paint. She has exhibited and sold work through a variety of events, Art Fairs, solo and group exhibitions, and commissions.
