Distraction – a solo exhibition by Sandy Campbell
Distraction – immersing yourself in anything that you enjoy and that takes your full attention. Just one of many recommended strategies to cope with isolation during the Covid-19 lockdown. Created at a time when making art of any kind seemed a monumental challenge, Sandy Campbell subsequently did find solace in the sanctuary of her studio. This new body of work is both playful and experimental in its approach, allowing the artist to fully escape into a world of colour, texture and surface. It is our hope that this exhibition will take you on a similar journey and give you, the viewer, your very own moments of distraction.
Sandy Campbell is an abstract painter whose work is firmly rooted in her experience of the declining urban landscape. The abandonment and decay surrounding her first studio in Luton influenced the development of the highly textured and complex surfaces that she creates, as well as inspiring her 3D pieces that use recycled materials.
