The Wynd Gallery is pleased to announce Graham A. Matthews fine art photography exhibition ‘Expedition India’
Graham A. Matthews graduated from the University of Bedfordshire with a BA (Hons) degree in Photography and Video Art adding to 35 years of independent photographic experience in portraiture, landscape and travel photography. In 2015 Graham was selected to participate in a group exhibition at the Milton Keynes gallery and has exhibited in a private gallery in St Etienne, France. Expedition India was first shown at the Dunstable Methodist Church in September 2017.
The exhibition will comprise of photographs and videos and focuses on a small rural community in North India and its relationship with a 100 year old ‘Mission Hospital’ located on the outskirts of the town of Sarenga, West Bengal. The Khristiya Seva Niketan Mission Hospital attempts, with very limited resources, to offer free medical care for those unable to pay the high cost of treatments currently in all of India’s modern city hospitals. Thus the Mission Hospital has become an essential life line to the farmers and low paid workers of the community despite its limited income of donations and the limited help of the Church of North India.
The images combine Graham’s photography and video art practice with contemporary reportage techniques offering the viewer an unique window into the harsh realities of third world rural India and the efforts being made to try to provide basic medical care to the poor.
The exhibition acknowledges the support of the Dunstable Methodist Church and the Khristiya Seva Niketan Mission Hospital in Sarenga, West Bengal, North India.
Entry is free however a small donation to the Expedition India Mission Hospital fund would be gratefully appreciated.
