Emma Franc

Drawn to atmospheric places as diverse as the theatre, museums, warehouses, old London markets and abandoned playgrounds, she enjoys experimenting with textured surfaces showing a light source coming through from within the picture. Laboured mark making and a liberal attitude to mixing materials bring a unique freshness and excitement to the work. At the heart of her work is a loyalty to the drawn line, often carved back into the picture with a scalpel or drawn above the painted surface with charcoal. With this all important element, she often seeks to reinstate a balance to a composition that is seemingly blown off course or obscured by ambiguous shapes. This work is thought-provoking and asks you to connect to the story within.
